Accreditation is a voluntary system of self regulation developed to evaluate overall educational quality and institutional effectiveness (The Commission’s complete Purpose Statement is available in Article I, section 2 of its Bylaws). The ACCJC accreditation process provides assurance to the public that the accredited member colleges meet the Standards; the education earned at the institutions is of value to the student who earned it; and employers, trade or profession-related licensing agencies, and other colleges and universities can accept a student’s credential as legitimate. Los Angeles Harbor College's 2012 Self-Evaluation Report

Welcome to Los Angeles Harbor College’s Accreditation website:

Accreditation work at Los Angeles Harbor College throughout 2012-13 sustains a campus-wide climate of accreditation based on planning, assessment, and evaluation. Integral to this work is strengthening the link between data (from Student Learning and Service Area Outcomes with input from Program Reviews) into all planning and budget decisions.

Following the college’s 2012 Self-Evaluation Study and the ACCJC’s two follow-up recommendations on planning and budget the college remobilized and renewed its emphasis on these vital processes. In July when the college was notified that it had been placed on probation by the ACCJC, the Accreditation Steering Committee was immediately reconstituted in order to formulate a plan of action.

The Steering Committee, along with Standard I A&B (Institutional Effectiveness and Planning) and the Budget Committee then met regularly throughout the fall to plan and monitor corrective action.

The Harbor College community has recommitted itself to streamlining its planning processes and to ensuring that budget decisions are transparent, data driven, and directed toward student success. In addition to the Accreditation Steering and Standard I Committee meetings, all Standard Committees meet once each semester to review activities pertinent to the Actionable Improvement Items identified in the 2012 report and to keep the campus updated on broader accreditation issues. If you are interested in joining this effort and supporting the college community, check the Shared Governance Calendar for meeting dates or contact either of the accreditation coordinators, Ellen Joiner and Jim Stanbery.
