CARES Distribution
The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), signed into law on March 27, 2020 and funds were distributed to institutions of higher education to address the disruptions caused by COVID-19.
LOS ANGELES HARBOR COLLEGE has signed the Department of Education Certification and Agreement for receipt of the CARES Act. The LOS ANGELES HARBOR COLLEGE has been allocated $2,906,139 and is in receipt of $1,555,970 for distribution to students in direct aid. Based on the guidelines from the Department of Education, students must be eligible for Title IV financial aid and not be enrolled in exclusively online courses. LOS ANGELES HARBOR COLLEGE has approximately 2,888 eligible for CARES Act funding.
LOS ANGELES HARBOR COLLEGE has prioritized those students with identified financial need. Awards in the amount of $300 have been provided to all students meeting the following requirements:
- Active for the spring semester,
- Pell eligible,
- Not enrolled in exclusively online courses.
Direct aid is intended for students whose lives have been impacted by the coronavirus and must be used for expenses related to the disruptions due to the coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare expenses.
The Los Angeles Harbor College has distributed $1,555,970 to 3,161 students. Eligible students have received an email with information from the District Office with information on distribution through the student Bank Mobile account.
Remaining emergency funds will be disbursed using the following criteria of
- Currently enrolled students
- Title IV Eligible
Priority given to disproportionately impacted populations such as Veterans, Foster Youth, and homeless students.
HEERF III
Los Angeles Harbor College has distributed $2,201,500 to 2,590 students. Eligible students have received an email with information from the LACCD District Office with information on distribution through the student Bank Mobile account.
Block Grant Eligibility and Priority Consideration Criteria:
- Priority #1:
- Be actively enrolled at LAHC during the application term and at the time of disbursement.
- Have designated LAHC as their home school.
- Meet the California College Promise Grant eligibility.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Priority #2:
- Federal and State Aid recipients not included in priority #1
- Priority #3:
- Non-aid recipients not included in priority #1 or priority #2
- Priority #3:
- Noncredit students not included in priority #1, or priority #2, or priority #3.
HEERF QUARTERLY REPORT POSTING (STUDENT PORTION)
Methodology used:
- Active in at least 1-unit class for Fall 2021 as of award date (either credit or non-credit classes)
- Demonstrated Financial Need by either of the following:
- CCPG awarded (not posted - includes LOB)
- Complete FAFSA
- Have remaining need (>0) (COA-EFC= Financial Need)
- Completed application for financial assistance
- Include online-only students
Guidance provided to Students:
A. Use of funds - The funds must be used for expenses related to the disruptions due to the coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare expenses.
B. Disbursement – Funds are disbursed through Bank Mobile. Students may set up accounts with Bank Mobile, or opt to receive funds directly in their own bank account or a paper check.
