About our Math, Engineering, Science Achievement program (MESA)

MESA

Welcome STEM Scholars!!!

Happy New Year! We are excited to announce that Los Angeles Harbor College is ONE of the newest MESA programs in our LACCD.  A grassroots effort that began in 1970 with 25 students at Oakland Technical High School in 1970 has flourished into an award-winning program that serves over 25,000 middle school, high school, community college, and university level students throughout California each year.

The Los Angeles Harbor College MESA programs goals include:

1. Increase the number and percentage of underrepresented and/or low-income students attaining certificates and degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM);

2. Empower and support educationally disadvantaged, first-generation community college students pursuing STEM degrees while providing academic, financial, and professional development resources; and

3. Increase the number and percentage of underrepresented and/or low-income students transferring to baccalaureate programs in STEM.
