TRiO - PROGRAMS
The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs.
A.S.A.P.
The Academic Success Action Plan (A.S.A.P.) is a federally funded TRiO Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. This Project offers an intensive service and instructional package to a select number of students with disabilities in support of the full attainment of graduation and transfer goals. Project A.S.A.P. activities are designed to support total student success (including financial literacy) with an emphasis on improving student retention rates and academic performance.
The Project provides support to Special Programs and Services (S.P.S.) students who have the goal of graduating with an associate degree, earning a certificate, or transferring to a four-year institution.
TRiO Eligibility:
To participate in the Academic Success Action Plan, students MUST complete an application and be formally admitted into the Project.
Primary Requirements:
- Must be enrolled on campus;
- Must have a verified disability;
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident;
- Must be able to demonstrate academic needs.
Academic Eligibility:
In addition to the above criteria, applicants must be highly motivated to succeed in their education. They must have a goal of wanting to graduate with an associate degree or wish to transfer to a four-year institution and have one or more of the following academic needs:
- 2.4 or below grade point average
- Specific problems in English or Math
- English as second language challenges
- College probation
- Low placement scores
Other eligibility criteria may include:
Low-income status in accordance with federal guidelines.
